Why we carry it
The 5401D is a lock box you screw to a wall, for a spare key that someone else needs to get to: a dog walker, a cleaner, a contractor, or family arriving before you do. You set your own four-digit combination, and a shutter door covers the dials to keep out weather and grime and keep the numbers out of sight.
A few habits make it work well. Change the combination from the factory 0-0-0-0 before you put a key in it, and change it again when a job ends or a guest leaves. Scramble the dials every time you close it: until you do, the release button still opens it. Mount it somewhere that can't be seen from the street.
Frequently Asked Questions
How do I change the combination?
Open the box with the current combination (a new box is set to 0-0-0-0). Inside, push the reset lever left and down, turn the dials to your new combination, then push the lever back up and to the right. Close the door, scramble the dials and write the combination down somewhere safe.
How many keys does it hold?
Master Lock does not give a key count. It says the inside holds several keys without jamming and measures 3-1/4" tall, 2-1/4" wide and 1" deep, so check a bulky key fob against those sizes before ordering.
What do I need to mount it?
Master Lock's instructions call for a pencil, a level, a drill and bit, and a Phillips screwdriver, plus anchors and a hammer for brick or other masonry. The screws go in from inside the box, so open it first.
Will you install it?
Mounting a key box is not part of the installation you can book online. If you would like us to mount it, call us and we will tell you whether we can and give you a quote.
